Cuts and Such

Cuts and Such

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Cuts and Such

poetry is like an open sore

we scratch it with a pen

until it becomes an infection

of inflection

a wound wound tightly

in a bandage of words in bondage

sometimes I want to cut off the limb

then hobble away from meanings

that become gangrene in my mind

poetry is both healer and stealer

of life

peel the covering

and see.

Healer and stealer indeed. Poetry can help us express emotions, but it can steal our time....into practically an obsession. I liked the scattered rhyming here, Jacob. Lydi**

love your response, Lydi.
thank you,

A wonderful analogy of what it is like to be a poet, superbly expressed through both excellent word choice and use of brilliant metaphor. But in spite of all the scars we continue to battle the infections which only heal when we write. A sublime write, very poetically penned. Thank you for sharing, J...

Most welcome always, J...
And should there be a sort of healing from such infections? I don't think so.
This is lovely...

dear Jacob... when we were Born.. there was the Umbilical Cord... now we are diagnosed with extra Vines that must be removed... and of course we cut our Hair and our Nails in order ti be well groomed. I hobble with a Cane and my favorite one is the hardest Wood (thin) but very Strong. I rather feel Debonaire and Fancy Free .. a Branch from a Tree. gently, Pat

YES! I have had this exact (though less well-put) thought/feeling many times. Gosh I love how you have put it here. Amazing, love it

E-C,
I guess at some point, all poets write about the craft, even Keats said, "When I have fears that I may cease to be/Before my pen has gleaned my teeming brain... Real poets can't help but paint the picture, make the statement, ask the question, or the teeming would take our lives. When we vent, we vent beauty...
Nicely done, sir!

Thank you for the very kind words, Soren,

'Cuts and such' for sure. Is like dying for a word that's lost in space; day long and night its scratches and scratches til the mind pours with focus. You bring out such wonders, jacob.. each and every time.
