Soulless

Soulless

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Soulless

I took a gander

at substance abuse once

but then withdrew immediately

to my shallow self

where I felt safe.

Substance abuse! Some use it as a means to opening their creative talent. Many of the world's most beautiful songs have been penned under such abuse, but the downside is that it doesn't agree with everybody who takes it and many don't know their limitations and end up in the morgue. Those who don't end up in the morgue become addicted and that not just opens up channels of pain, illusion, distortion, confusion, hallucination but they can also end up in the morgue. I blame drugs for many of the problems seen in life today, like thirteen and seventeen year old boys killing, throwing bombs, stabbing, etc. The story goes on. No human being regardless of age could kill another human being in cold blood and be prepared to do so by carrying knives to begin with. The intent has to be there to commit such outrageous acts. As you might imagine, I am not in favour of drugs and they are rife in the lovely town I live sadly. I have nothing to do with anyone who has anything to do with them. A very thought provoking, insightful write. I am SO eternally happy you chose to feel safe, dear J... Stay in that safe place always, dear friend. Thank you for writing and thank you for sharing...

Agree, J... Most welcome always and thank you again for sharing...
Wow! Another mind provoking gem. Yes coices in roads and intersections in life where we usually pick the safe and familiar. Substances the extreme but I know many that said it opened their vision but also their pain. A wonderful gem that applies to so much I will be thinking of this for some time.

Your review is better than the poem, "opening vision but also pain"--amen to that.

I appreciate you, Stella,

Well done anyone who doesn’t succumb to the temptation. It’s a trap. A prison with no release. A life stealer.

You're welcome thank for the wake up.
Erin,
I love it when I'm tempted to stick my toe into something unfamiliar, but always with the understanding that candy is great, but it isn't food. Or that Lori was an explosive lover, but dangerous, too. Not to mention that time I should have stayed in Tennessee instead of moving to Florida... These days all I've got left are ganders, though...

I cliff dove, and unquestionably, I was off the rails most of my life, and just now realizing it.
