Thrusting the Sword

Thrusting the Sword

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Thrusting the Sword

battle ground battles
defamation of soldiers' character
weapons of language
Civil War savagery
these are leaders who lead us
away from peace in dialogue
a prologue of definitions
of vocabulary succinctly scandalous

if only it was all metaphorical
a figurative familiarity with reality
a fable of the hare calling the tortoise names
but then both laughing off the joke

humor thrives
fairy tale smiles

but this skirmish skirts the issues
and simply attacks the soulful spirit
of a country needing reconstruction of values

what solution abides in hearts of unrest
only the conscience
can quell the fighting
tone back the angry volume
to zero

and begin a new soothing
syntax that enlightens
rather than frightens.

dearest Jacob… Our Country was founded ion Principles for We the People. Now the Spotlight is on the Power of a few with a View that changes our Constitution and Compassion for the People. Only the Spirit of The People can survive the Destruction of Mankind with renewed determination to save our Trees 🌴 and Clean Environment within a planned Democracy. Your poetry is a Wake up Call to those who Believe. Amen… Pat

Thank you for your kind review, Pat,

War is always such a heartbreaking and versatile topic to write about, ranging from reality to metaphorical, it is always powerful. "these are leaders who lead us, away from peace in dialogue" I feel i can hear the outrage in this line. beautiful work :)))

thank you for your words, nadia,

The answer has always b been there, our capability to grasp it may be so much wind. When you think that strides are being made, that rug of righteousness gets pulled out from under by hands that we can't even see. sometimes, I feel ashamed. Great piece Jacob, glad I stopped by.

I feel ashamed as well, Crowley,
thank you for your visit and words,

A wonderous diatribe against war, civil unrest and all that promote it. Eloquently worded and applicable to the US as well as other countries around the world. Very emotional.

Thank you, Soren...needs to be said and hopefully heard.

This is so applicable to the civil unrest we are experiencing in the UK. I hope to God, politicians are listening instead of ignoring the root of the problem. which has been festering for some time. It is their job, to resolve. I have little faith in their ability. Great topical write J.

Thank you, Chris...yes, so many civil wars and much unrest...so sad and unnecessary.

Wouldn't it be great if all the military had was toy guns and play like when they were kids.

but the reality of mortals is the devil finds a way to influence them.

Yes, that would be great...croquet mallets for machine guns...and little rocks for hand grenades.read more
I like this one, j. especially the last verses. You speak of the healing this country so sorely needs. We are sadly not there yet. Whatever way the election goes, I fear that bitterness will linger. But at this point I will be happy if there simply is no blood.
