Decision

Decision

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Decision

maybe there was a poet

inside the poet

who mouthed the words on paper

ink spilled from a tongue

of confusion

life's balance

a tilted pen

the weight extinguished

in the final breath

the poet inside the poet

lived beyond the words

or the words lived beyond him

having not the heart

to turn off the machine

that kept motivating

him to write

before death and beyond

Wow, this takes a few reads to really internalize, "ink spilled from a tongue" is a killer line. Amazing work as always Jacob :)

thank you for your kind review, nadia,

A very thoughtful poem J....complex too...So what comes from within is your heart and soul to be able to scribe what you feel...and the outside poet actually writes it.... and when death arrives, the words will still be alive, while the inner poet fades into dust...the writing is everlasting!!! well done my friend!

that's quite a perspective... poet inside a poet, thought provoking. very interesting poem. I loved the below lines, so much it said and beyond.. great lines!
"the poet inside the poet
lived beyond the words
or the words lived beyond him"
Thanks jacob!

you're most welcome, jacob.
A possible touch of the supernatural here. We are confronted with both an outer and an inner poet in this one. The outer one was the one who put the words on paper, while the actual creation was the inner poet's work. Actually, it was more purpose than work, for it motivated him before, during and after life.

I've always had a theory that poetry is passed down whenever a poet dies ... there can only be so many at a time. Nice writing. ~Jim

"life's balance

This image has deep pilings that need consideration. Like most of your writing it requires going beyond the surface.
"the poet inside the poet
lived beyond the words
or the words lived beyond him"
Another deep thought and so true indeed. Loved that stanza
Truely admire the deep thought in your poetry

Thank you for that very kind comment, Soren,

Man can't always win over the instrument. At certain times things need lie in their readers' rather than their writers' performance. Perhaps? Could this be a mystery in the making, sir?
