not room enough in the confessional

not room enough in the confessional

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

not room enough in the confessional

i loved you

and promised you the world

in the back of the Oldsmobile

as we unhooked, unzipped

and then fear stopped us

like a crack of thunder

and a hard rain that just threatened

but never appeared

we glanced at each other

the next day as our pews aligned

our souls regretted the temptation

but our hearts yearned

for another Saturday night to come soon.
