It isn't the poem that makes the poet to me but the oeuvre or body of work when taken in its entirety; finding the connections and revisited themes by the author. By this, I know the poet and the poetry better. I've always loved reading collections by a single artist because by their conclusion, I always feel a wealth of empathy with the writer. But most artists extend themselves beyond one field. I write, play guitar, sing, paint, draw, cook, garden, carve and craft. And I consider these all arts of personal expression. My cooking gets the most rave reviews though. ;)

From poetry to painting? Sometimes we gored if sick if our grade… and in vain search for a new way of expressing ourselves…. This could be that poet….however, the way in which he changed his tactic was a bit too bold
Don't dump everything at once…..
I like this one!

I kept everything for 50 plus years. Would brake my heart to lose the many journals Jacob. Once Hemingway lost all his writing at a train station. Broke his heart. I liked the honest words and thoughts written. But one day. Our words can be tossed into a dumpster. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry.

Funny this ... I began my artistic endeavors in the art world and dabbled in writing ... until I realized I wasn't that talented as a painter ... still not sure about the writing.
Relic's old teacher's adage "write what you know" is true ... although I think write what you understand could be added to the picture.
Not sure how much we 'old poet's' understand ... still seraching for that.

I still am thankful to a 2nd grade teacher who convinced me to write in a diary ... though I only did for a couple years I got in the habit of wordplay, be it sibilance, rhyme, alliteration and I have stuck with it since. I should have quit before the Spoonerisms became part of my life. Anyhow .... enjoyable read. ~Jim

An old professor I had once said to us - "always write what you know." The heart always seems to know best.
It's the holder of emotions. It's sort of like a drumhead that's struck in the readers soul. Even if it's only a small thud or grace note. It's the reward of the writer to know it made even a small reverberation in the reader.
