A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Alliance

a black mountain poet
lives in the soft hills
of a Southern Illinois region
writing words on cumulus paper

the pen soars
the mountains get smaller
less ebony
the clouds break

the words are drops
splashing the crag
there is no Eagle to clasp the rock
save itself

the black mountains
set against the white space
fill in the spaces
between lines

poets have spiked shoes
to climb
but also the feathers
of a quill

nesting arrangements
are made
the poet gathers straw
uses his favorite poem

as a pillow
or a nest egg
If some collector
purports to pay for the ride

I believe writing keeps us sound minded and grounded as we pen our words on to a piece of paper. A poet's pen is like a painters brush.

I loved your poem, feels free to share them with me. Great read!

This a magnificent way to celebrate writing and the process of how our thoughts are penned on paper. I love the choice of imagery to convey this idea that you have composed.

since my own world is predominantly filled with writing and with words too, I confess, I found this somewhat eyrie (fun intended).

Jacob,

This is a very splendid piece of poetry that I truly enjoyed reading ... I have known you and read your work since 2012, and I have yet to once leave your pages without being inspired, uplifted, touched, informed, and enlightened ...

you are very kind to say that, Marve...
thank you, my friend.
Beautiful j. The imagery in this poem is ace. I love the idea of a poet’s favourite poem being a pillow. A comfort to him or her. Yes, poetry is like climbing mountains if you want to succeed at it. It takes hard work and dedication.

writing words on cumulus paper - that is so lovely.
