did you ever hear of him

did you ever hear of him

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

did you ever hear of him

the artist matters

the ink splatters

word pictures at an exhibition

the poet is the Dorian Gray

of verse

ageless as the poem grows grey

and then falls from the wall

the nails rusted

the keeper of the frame

fails his fame

the poem is to blame

Great Expectations

follow the smattering of shattering lines

the poems are his remains

the remains of a candle lit night

with his ink illuminating the room

then his world

touching another's

if it splattered just right.

One of your subjects says 'those who can do' and you do with great consistancy.

thank you, Ken....you are a kind poet.

Great works of art are immortal for those to read long after the writer has died and artwork is the same way. There is a part of us that shall live on through our words or artworks. I loved the thought penned out with splattering ink on these pages!!

Poetic Beauty

That is so true. We hope a part of us remains
This reminds me of Jackson Pollock, on the abstract side of expression but a masterpiece, nonetheless. We can't create for others, only for ourselves, lest we become public prostitutes always coloring inside the lines and making stick pictures everyone easily understands. Yes! The artist matters.

thank you for your insightful words, Fabian.

there are a few Dorian Greys about now , one in every town i think who belittles the local poets and has great self-esteem .... but the local poets have the most self satisfaction in their work not having to live up to leaving a great legacy...

yes, great to not have to do that.
Thank you, Stella,

Another fine write J. Yes this is so true, we never really remember the life of the poet but their poetry lives on in the minds who read their works well after they are deceased. Same with music, the artist is dead but the song plays on and on. It’s a legacy I suppose.
