Love is our Jacket

Love is our Jacket

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Love is our Jacket

acorns drop

squirrels scatter to gather

the maple leaves congregate

the fiendish, snickering child

goes ker-leaf

then sets fire to the colors

autumn freezes into winter

bare branched soldiers

stand at attention

cloaked only in naked bark

inside the trees, are thoughts of another spring

their humanness is a kindness

they want to shield us from the cold

but can only watch as we huddle, cuddle

and bundle up

inside the humans, are thoughts of another spring

as we smile at the child

and wink to the squirrels

pick up an acorn

and throw it as far as heaven

at least,

inside we do.

I am perhaps putting too literal an interpretation on the identity of the fiendish child. On the surface he seems to be an arsonist, but he probably represents something within us. Whatever, I hope no one sells him an AR-15.

A very interesting interpretation, John...thank you for your thoughts...

You've voiced an excellent idea, author Jacob erin-cillberto, that love is what tucks our human selves into comfort ans warms us daily. The use of creative and extensive imagery paints a great picture of a warm season, one plentiful of care and kindness. I find this read to be much of a delight and I thank you for sharing it.

The change of seasons explained a beautiful way with all its colors fading to soldiers standing at attention

One can feel the life flowing through your words, Jacob. This was as though you paused mid thought, or a tree did. A momentary glimpse into things we can never know.

Thank you for sharing. It made me smile. :)

Indeed in this ever world of ever increasing fear, anxiety only natural to feel threatened, our last maybe only refuge is love, let's hope and pray it prevail in these times of great uncertainty?

Inspiring
