slain

slain

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

slain

it was a high coo

in the morning sunrise

until the dove bit the dust

and another nation fell

and demise crept closer

as talons limped

a symbol learning how to walk

because it can no longer fly

countries look on

the aviary is cluttered with molted feathers

Peace between the wings

is a fiasco

the birds are spinning in grief

humans suffer oblivion

as the Eagle crashes into

earth it has shaped for itself

the landing gear

dissuaded by selfish chaos

democracy is the prey

and it got away.

Despite the metaphors, this one is not about ornithology. The dove, symbol of peace, has bitten the dust in the mideast and eastern Europe, but also in the hearts and minds of our divided country. The American Eagle has indeed crashed into what it has shaped, the political chaos that now besets us. Democracy may have temporarily escaped, but the verdict of November's election will determine whether or not it stays free.

I want to see that Beacon...because the light is really dim right now. Thank you, Pat,

I can see this as a state of Earth's environment due to humans or a Metaphorical lot at war.
