They say that the role of a poet is to capture the emotions of the reader. This poem encapsulates the sentiments of a nation and maybe many nations. Some say this is jaded, others say cynical, I say it doesn't matter when one feels powerless to effect change and when one is told that the change desired is politically incorrect, then the mind and soul have been enslaved, that's when we throw in the towel and pay the price. Sorry for the rant Jacob but your hook caught me too.

I appreciate that you felt enough to make this responsse, Soren,
j.
Your words struck a chord. I feel like this often these years since the rise of theocratic authoritarian corporatists wallowing in their false rectitude.
there is no America to make great again
bustling relevance
symbols still fly
when tossed out of the windows
of Capitalistic nests
an Aerie in the clouds of baby boomer skies
ideals were once accumulated
then fractured
voting won't solve a thing
when the campaign posters
grow older by the minute
and the snow is waiting for age to melt
It sounds to me that we (you and I) are from the same era...Only I would add that hatefulness, spite, and greed are the bywords of our time, although, in fact, they have always been there. Only now, in our time, are they being shouted from the political pulpit. "Clean out the ghetto..." that was Hitler's call, and millions died. The new leader of our world has the same philosophy and, like Hitler, is being supported by the people. Hatred, spite, and greed!

It's a political thought, I really enjoyed reading it because it carries an educative message with suitable words selection which makes it more sensible.
What is happening in the USA has travelled to the UK. The future looks bleak. Politicians are completely out of touch with the electorate. I am sensing unrest. Total reform needed, as well as controlled immigration. Yes, I feel democracy is under threat. We live in troubled times. Scary in
my opinion dear j.

There are so many things wrong in this country. I rarely turn on the news. Too much disarray and the incompetence of many people is astounding.

Yes, the news is so grim these days...and no rainbow at the end of the storm.

So true J. And the price we are about to pay with our hearts and souls is unimaginable…… we will be watched carefully and if we don’t agree we are subject to detainment, for disagreeing with the Boss….there are no more ideals, they disappeared…..and you’re correct, voting won’t mean a thing….we’re not guilty……the government is….
Great write J.

The voters are the O.J. jury and the lawyers are in the glove business. Jerry Springer was once the mayor of Cincinnati! Jesse Ventura was the governor of Minnesota. It's been a long trial. We're all guilty... of asking the price of justice, of peace. Didn't Plato write about some of this in the Republic? And, good write. This is where your verse took me.
