On the Docket

On the Docket

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

On the Docket

I saw Eagles with severed heads

Statesmen with bound wings

counties of tumbleweed

Wanted Posters on unused telephone poles

there is no America to make great again

only a light dusting of snow

on a cold plains

a flatland of locked memories

bustling relevance

once shot across the screen

on the six O'clock news

serious Walter told us of "the way it was"

symbols still fly

when tossed out of the windows

of Capitalistic nests

an Aerie in the clouds of baby boomer skies

ideals were once accumulated

then became cumulus

then fractured

then headless, became scary ventures

flying into panes, blind

tell it to Judge Judy

she can scold with the best of them

just skip the interviews on the way out of court

voting won't solve a thing

when the campaign posters

grow older by the minute

and the snow is waiting for age to melt

everything has a price.

caught in a tug-of-war, money trumps ideals. the america we once new has faded. i don't even know what to call our system of government anymore. electing different people into a broken/corrupt system does no good. i'm happier when i don't watch the news ... :)

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely by the proverb often attributed to Voltaire. I think Will Rogers said something like, If an dishonest man goes into politics he will become great. If an honest man goes into politics he will become dishonest. Sad but understandable.

This is an epic poem and speech sir Jacob on the current state and status of America and the world in general; your last verse summed up uncontrolled, free-reigned capitalism with its power, greed, corruption and selfish individualism. If capitalism was structured with righteousness, justice and charity, it will be an awesome system. The powerful fat cats and ultra wealthy want to keep it the other way for many agendas.
Keep preaching sir the good message; it might awaken few Americans to see the true picture behind the whitewashed facades.

You are welcome sir Jacob.
From the outside looking in, it seems like America is not at all united.
Used to be that you pick a leader and you all follow but the people are very much divided.

It is pretty much the same here Jacob, there is no Great Britain anymore , we are just a small island drowning under the weight of immigration and leaders who who are so rich they have no idea about what made this nation so great in the first place... they can't even control rubber dinghies that land on our shores daily full of drug dealers..
We know what true strength is after 2 world wars when our people endured real hardship, this lot panic when an inch of snow is forecast ..

it seems that we could stop Hitler invading our shores but not these rubber dinghies ...
Your words touch thought, pride, lack of hope and words that fail even the speaker. Seems there is a planetary fear of speaking our, except in foolhardy areas where those in power could damn the rest of us ornery mortals. Careful and Casual politics are at war. The use of tactful diplomacy is met with cynicism so wars develop like autumnal winds, covering the rest of the world. Powerful countries are inevitably ruled by devils and despots. Fear sets in, votes remain uncounted. No wonder folk want to go to the moon... thing is - how?

'voting won't solve a thing
when the campaign posters
grow older by the minute
and the snow is waiting for age to melt
everything has a price.'

How very, very, VERY true, sir wisdom.

So true Jacob, but far be it for me to tell another country how it is (thanks Walter) as we have a problem or three to deal with from our own lot here.
The song goes Brottania rules the waves, but do we? Especially with Russia smirking to out faxes over the failed nuke test from the sea. It was meant to fly 3000 miles and crash safely into the sea, but we skipped the 3000 miles and safety bits and it crashed less than 3000 metres away!
It is scary to think of the futures new world order, with so many despots hellbent on taking us all down their cul-de-sac of doom! I just hope it's after I'm gone.
I do hope that eagle becomes a "Mike the headless chicken" and is sent to scare the bejeezus out of Putin. We can only hope a headless chicken squawking in his bedroom becomes like the ghost of Christmas past, present snd future and we'll. You know how that movie ends.
Aren't we due a happy ever after about now?
