HitchhikerA Poem by jacob erin-cilberto
had a
poem riding in the back seat distraction while
driving towards freeverse country the
stuttering engine weeps as the
ink leaks the
poem calmly sits I
glance in the rearview mirror once
or twice but
the poem just rides abides as the
road starts to look familiar I see
signs of completion miles
to go before the
ink seeps I see
billboards of Frost heckling with
his sordid nature writes,
which get me lost on
nights of
reading deep into the woods mile
markers mark punctuation I
ignore I
implore this
trip to be over hitchhikers
might be dangerous need
to let the inspiration out it can
walk the rest of the way Or
stick out its iambic thumb and
let the next poet turn
the keys to
bring the poem all
the way home. erin-cilberto 1/27/24 © 2024 jacob erin-cilbertoReviews
