New Year's Eve at the Kennel

New Year's Eve at the Kennel

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

New Year's Eve at the Kennel

dog chatter in the alleyways
mischievous canines
chewing the fat with each other
and gnawing on bones
thrown out the back door
of the cafe
beckoning them to trust

we are thrown bones
by the politicians
our chatter must get louder
barks of denial

faith in those who lead us
turns this dog agnostic

I believe in nothing
but, the next plate of food
left out for me to consume
like the lies of the owners
we elected,
just because they dangled treats
in front of our hopes and dreams

and then threw the box
to the fat cats
who swallow us whole
without chewing first.

What a doggy style pen script, extremely well written and it perfectly illustrated poet's feeling and emotional content. I really enjoyed reading it.

Thank you for your kind words, Maximus.

I can see where you're coming from, and I sympathize. I can only hope that by next New Year's Eve, a certain monster will be history, politically speaking.

Wow... the Supreme Court may play a big part in this Election.
In the meantime... anything goes. It seems we are experiencing Hell most of time... to see our Country torn apart. We are waiting for the next Bomb to fall. sadly, Pat

Yes and a re-election of a certain bomber flying so low, could spell doom.

Trust no-one !

Was a time politicians, doctors and church leaders were people to emulate and admire , but now there is little true caring in the world , we are fed lies and at times outrageous information.
Trust your own instincts ... your inner self is usually the best marker for truth .

A poem of our times. If we can’t trust our leaders, who sell us down the river, who can we trust? Never have I known a time with an election in sight, that I am stumped as to where my vote will go. There are a lot of swamps that need draining. Too many promises made and broken. Big business wins every time while many ordinary people suffer. Politicians are at an all time low in my book. Too many go into politics these days for the wrong reasons. So much truth in this poem. Brilliantly put.

Rarely has a truer word been said, written or thought, jacob Your words here resound as so they should - and must. People in most countries feel cheated by attitudes perpetuated by those sitting on pedestals far too large for them. Would love to think there might be a change of tide by the electorate, perhaps by louder voices and far few fewer large xx. That said, we are apt to swim hopeful from one side to another, barely learning by mistakes via those tidal wild horses.
