Yuling Banjos

Yuling Banjos

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Yuling Banjos

the sled skidded on the pavement

and the reindeer fell

into corpses

soon covered in snow white lace

and Christmas just a memory

of the birth of someone important

but then it was bought and sold

for a six pence

or a bright shiny dollar

that looked like the North Star

and shepherds would have been there

but lost their way

and the sheep strayed

like the chosen ones

let go, as from a job

and commercials flooded the airways

and Carols were swallowed up in

currency

I think one of those reindeer

just stood up

and one of the shepherds

just reached the lean-to

straw, stars and prayers

into the dark night

echo

with something from the past

that once made sense

and did not come in wrapping paper

and ribbon.

I fear it's a bit like the gum from the night before the night before .. lost all its flavour along the way .. and although I follow a different path, I do think it is a mighty big shame that it has come to this .. Seasons best Jacob & all the very best of all good things for the fast approaching new year .. and beyond .. N.

As I have said for years, which is why I stop pretending at all now and just write "Merry commercial exploitation of a once meaningful occasion on the card instead! 😊
I think your title for this one is a late shout for number one title of '23. 😊

ha ha, thank you, Lorry,

Erin,
It is an awful thing what we have done. The very fact that we substituted a tree for a creche, says it all. I do have an issue with the attitude that every time someone finds a way to have fun, there are always those spoilsports who sniff, and scorn, but for this particular holiday, I wish we could just see it for what it is. If taken as true and in context, it is the most important event in all of history.

Thank you, Vol...yes, seems to be celebrated for all the wrong reasons these days,
j.
it is sad how commercial Christmas has begun. that's why we need to digg deep in our hearts to see the true meaning.

I hear you, Dale...I hear you.

The original reindeer were donkeys they say, but Santa needed a little more horse power (reindeer power) Christmas has become ludicrous with its commercialism. A great read for today

And it starts the day after Halloween...all that build up and then everyone is taking down the trees.. read more
Far too commercial, these days. I can remember when I was little and used to sing happy birthday to Jesus on Christmas Day. I still love listening to carols on Christmas morning.. That doesn’t change j. Every blessing to you my friend.

I agree...nothing like listening to "Do you hear what I hear?" on Christmas morning.

"and Christmas just a memory

of the birth of someone important"

That's how it is now Jacob, although i am not religious Christmas is so over commercialised it would be sinful a hundred years ago ,
Things from the past should not wrapped up to look pretty , but respected whether we are believers or not .

I appreciate your response, Stella...

Wow. Stark and image-filled at the same time. Most of it comes without wrapping paper for sure. Nicely done. ~Jim
