the drunk jester

the drunk jester

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the drunk jester

bootlegger poet

illegal stills

of writes hidden in trees of metaphor

take a swig,

if you're up to it

you'll wake up the next day

and not remember a thing.

I love this. Poetry should intoxicate us. We need more bootleggers. this world is lacking in the requisite amount of poetry to make us forget our sorrows. And who doesn't need a little oblivion now and then? From someone who comes from a long line of bootleggers, drunkards, and ne'er do wells, this really hits home!

A bootlegger still remembers when he was Sober and becomes Nobler... perhaps... gently, Pat

I don't think I remember a thing...
Thank you, Glenda,

Clever musing, academically discovered, re-arranged - then, set before eyes that want to see, if they can. But, it's not what you see, eat or drink that re.arranges the view, it's the aftermath - whatever. Perhaps?

I wonder how Hemingway wrote. In the book "A moveable feast". Noon whiskey was the norm. I was told he wrote he wrote standing up by his daughter. When I drink. My my altered ego begin to write. Thank you Jacob for sharing the amazing poetry.

On this site, I usually find the preferred hiding places are jungles of alliteration.

And those are quite good jungles to get lost in, I am sure.

I come from a family of bootleggers. My cousins made moonshine in Wilkes County, NC and in Rutherford County. I have seen actual photos of their stills and way of life in the mountains. One photo has a relative swigging from a jug as a little girl in a bonnet stands by his fire holding a rag doll. But I understand this as metaphor. Sipping the potent elixir of distilled verbiage might give one a pleasant buzz that is not too easily forgotten. The content may be lost but never the experience. I enjoyed.

Never the experience....I like that.

Nothing like being intoxicated on poetry, only downside is you might not remember them…..for a while….i love the line….” Of writes hidden in trees of metaphor “ very clever J.

Excellent. I have tried letting my brew "age", but it doesn't seem to do much for it ... yours though seems to be getting only better. ~Jim
