AimA Poem by jacob erin-cilbertoAim
my
rubber-band memory elastically
stretches far back till
it almost snaps
but a
short pull seems
to leave it slack when
think back to
yesterday
or the
last hour or the
one before that
I have
a box of them in my
brain and if
I stretch them all at once I get
a poet thought
shoot
it towards the page but it
lands limp, flimsy part
of my whimsy
but
slack back off track the
theme dreamed seemed a good
aim then
then last
week? yesterday? and
hour ago/
a
minute? now?
rubber
bands last about as long as bubbles from
those little jars we
used to blow them into the air and watch them fly
now I
blow poems into the air and watch them fly
they
last as long as bubbles or
rubber-band memories
confounded,
I tried to finish this poem but I
snapped.
