A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

for Georgia O'Keeffe
love is a single flower
dying in a pot of dry soil
tears won't bring it back

Again, verse so strongly Zen in nature - whether by intent or not, I do not know - but deep, moving and meaningful on it's own; and coupled with the dual implications of Georgia's life and creations- this becomes more than meets the eye on first AND second glance. Excellent!

Thank you for your words, Julian...
j.
I once examined the artwork in an orthdox Jewish school in Manchester. Lovely people. But the young girl who was teaching art had a book on Georga O'Keefe under her desk in her forbidden library. So that the Rabbi didn't see it.
She was even more shocked when I wickedly pointed out the intentional similarities to female genatalia in her flower paintings. I don't know that the Rabbi ever found her library but the work I examined from the girls was absolutely top notch and beautiful. And it was obvious that although the young teacher hadn't seen it the girls had in their paintings. I don't think I've ever given so many 'A's. Just for the quality of the painting.
I would give this an A too.

I appreciate that you would do that.

The amazing thing about O’Keefe is at one point she destroyed all her old paintings and began again.

Beautiful like her paintings. I've loved flowers since I was a child and still do. I grow gladiolus in my garden plot. I was just talking about Georgia in art class yesterday. We have art on Friday...my favorite subject to teach. We're studying Da Vinci in depth and we just had a lesson on Raphael. Emily wanted to know about modern American art and "girl artists" so of course Georgia was first on my list. My friend Rebecca Latham has a studio in SC where she paints very realistic watercolors of wildlife. I'm amazed by art and artists.

I am likewise amazed...I can't even draw good stick figures..what a talent they have.

I had to Google the subject of this lovely tribute in short form poetry. Thus I learned the image you offer has significance and reflects the work this painter put into flowers.

Thank you, John...
This is beautiful brevity Jacob. A tribute to the lovely Georgia O’Keeffe. I don’t know who she is or maybe was. What I do know is she suffered neglect. Love needs nurturing and sadly Georgia didn’t get a sufficient supply of that. My feelings here are it’s no use crying over spilt milk. The situation can’t be rectified. I pondered for several minutes over this one. Different emotions came into play. Sadness and regre being two of them. We all have our own regrets that come back as ghosts. Quite exquisite in its simplicity. I adore this piece. She would too.
