Wordslinger (a slow draw)

Wordslinger (a slow draw)

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Wordslinger (a slow draw)

in the saloon

stands a half-filled mug

and a jammed typewriter

on the street

lies a man

with a lead-filled heart.

Powerful brevity J. Stark imagery. The heart sure suffers wounds when the words aren’t willing. The muse can be fickle.

Oh, so fickle...
thank you,Chris
Critics or no reviews for me indicates a shooting not only the writes but of the writer. Maybe a lead filled heart also shows the breaking of a lead pencil in the shoot out. Superbly written as usual.

Thank you for your understanding words, andrew.

Powerful images that take the reader into the heart of the metaphor as the protagonist sits heavy hearted facing writers block or feeling that their writing is not worthwhile.

I appreciate your words, John,

Wordslinger would be a great pseudonym for a Raymond Chandler like poet, who sets his wry stories in the American West. There is also the slightly surreal touch of the typewriter having made it's way into the scene, an added dash from the cartoonist Saul Steinberg. This could be a poem about writer's block, the relationship between the half-filled mug and the heart full of lead. It is parodic and mysterious, a quick sketch and a slow draw.
