the sound of wounds

the sound of wounds

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto
"

inspired by Winston's "Fortunate One"---

"
the sound of wounds

word wars,
poetic armor useless
being cut to the quick
by vocabularianism

I read you loud, not clear
I am but a simple man
from Alabama
where wisdom grows in the fields

not from the scarred pages
of a Thesaurus
or the thickest dictionary
in the battle.

I want to be
Where wisdom grows
Green fronds
Reaching
Heaven ward
Love blooms
There

A blind hog finds an acorn now and then :)
I get excited whenever I learn a new word. It encourages me to use it in a sentence, or better yet, a poem. Another venue I posted at years ago would have these writing exercises, where they would give us a list of ten words, and we would have to write a poem that included all of them. Oh, and there was usually a word limit to the length the poem had to be. It's good to challenge ourselves. I think it helps to keep us young!

Yes, a good challenge. Thank you for YOUR words, Kelly,

Plain old nickel and dime words still have value...even if "vocabularianism" is lurking 'round the corner of the field. Give me easy to understand words. I know the fancy ones, but the plain and simple language gets the point across beautifully. Lydi**

Nothing more off putting than to have to frequently use a thesaurus or dictionary to try to decipher some meaning in a piece of poetry. I lack patience.

I like simple and clear.

That’s where you took me dear J.

Thank you for your kind words, Chris.
Some academic poetry is superfluous at best or at worst.. read more
Loved it. A master of metaphors as always. A sticks and stones scenario and words that never harm you comes to mind but some words do hurt.

Yes, some certainly do.
In my long years I have been cut short often by some words.

Once I thought to learn everything in a dictionary. Now I feel I never open it. Good work 👍

Thank you for your words, Arundass,

I never had to worry about vocabularianism. One clearly pronounced "f**k off, creep!" told me exactly where I stood.
