A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Sentence

your love

clouded my judgement

but the jury saw through you

They found you guilty

on two counts:

deceit

conceit

thinking you were elite

and I was of poor, vulnerable heart

your sentence

is to write five poems

of apology

to include in an anthology

by all of the women

who poemed a man

pervading

persuading

inviting

alighting

then

deceiving

perceiving

the conquer met

it was time to let

her heart be freed from the boredom

find freedom from the humdrum

life she perceived

yet she was the one deceived

because his heart was pure

and he was the cure

for her restless allure

to search for what she would never find

the jury were aligned

and settled on the verdict

"We find the defendant worthy of

being loved, and we order her

to write

one more poem expressing her love for him

and do commitment service

until death do them part."

Five poems you say? Hardly a life sentence ... "and now I'm waiting for the end of time to hurry up and arrive"
Thank you Meat Loaf.

glad this could make you smile, Chris,

Oh how they play games, alluring, enticing, poeming, being deceptive all the time. The punishment was well deserved. She must do her time and do it with full commitment. This is such an enjoyed poem. I loved it.

I am glad it did, Stella.
was meant to.

I was wondering when the death penalty was going to come up. Life imprisonment can be worse. Clever write and well done as well. I loved the idea that deceit is a punishable crime in civil court but not usually in civil marriage. Your playing off the legal system and its parts was great.
