Sertas and Uncertainty

Sertas and Uncertainty

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Sertas and Uncertainty

endings are strange bedfellows

when the sheets

are wrinkled with unfinished thoughts

that need to rest their heads

on pillows sourcing conclusion

Thank you, Cassie, that is very kind of you to say.

A conclusion is needed before an ending. Without that everything is in limbo. Like friends you haven’t spoken to for years. They aren’t endings. They are resting.

You are welcome Jacob.
In today's world of uncertainties, thoughts in search of conclusions had better be prepared to hang on throughout the 24 hour news cycle.

Endings are often not what we hoped they would be...our expectations ruin everything. Resting one's head....sometimes easier said than done. I like the metaphor here. Lydi**

The ending is sometimes satisfying, sometimes not. I think much depends on our expectations, whether from a novel, a poem, a movie or a relationship. I'm a sucker for a happy ending myself. I don't like the movies that leave the observer hanging to form their own conclusions. I think it's safe to say I want joyful gratification.

I appreciate you sharing this about endings...thanks for the look and review, Fabian,

Reminds me of a discussion I had with Ken when I was complaining about an ending I wrote that I didn't much like. He said, put it away and the ending will come to you. A few days later, it did. A few weeks after that, it was accepted for publication.
So much wisdom in this poem. Signed,
Grasshopper.
