Wish

Wish

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Wish

I want to join the Beats
feel the momentum
write long discriminate poems
about wars
and free love
Woodstock
Christ walking among us
sitting with Emily at the bus stop
getting to know her
convincing her he is quite real

as belief grows
for a cause
I want to join the Beats

write poems that make purists
cringe
for they must have structure
and we are demolishing
what they built

I want to write a book
and ask Ferlinghetti
to publish it with City Lights
have beatniks walk by the store
and see it displayed in the window

I want to walk down the street in protest
of anything available for the cause
jot lines down on my pad
like an artist's sketch book
I want to be revered for writing something
that really matters
formless
homeless
affording only pen, pad and heart

I dream.

It does seem great poetry is found in a empty bucket 🪣 containing only hope.

Yes, only hope.
thank you, Cherrie,
j.
Keep dreaming my friend because you have the sort of language of dreams and poetry that inspires others to reach and learn to dream also.

Hope you are keeping well jacob

you reminisce about the bygone
years when life was just a little bit
kinder..when one could be freer
in a more sane world than we have
today with PC ..you more than
surpassed your wishes with your
pen and pad, I'm lovin' every word
you wrote my friend..well done

Thank you for your kind words, Fran Marie,

I think perhaps you wish to be a non-conformist J..... or reverse and go back to Woodstock where no one cared how you dressed, what you smoked, what your faith was, if any.... and to be free to write, sing, dance have political views where you didn't get harassed or even killed for; protest anything where people didn't threaten you....that, I'm afraid, are the days gone by....
Warmly, B
PS none of my poem have structure!

Forever it seems! You’re very welcome J

Masterful delve into the desires of old relics like us, Jacob. I think it must be the era that did it, when whatever hold our imaginary understanding of what it meant to be American was shredded by by Vietnam and Selma and Chicago and Kennedy and Kennedy and Martin and Watergate and Peace with honor until we all wanted to gag.
We did not want to be part of whatever that was, but some did. The rift still lives; I suppose it always has.

Not part of the bad stuff...but we were, along with what was idealistically a hope that died.

Hold on to your dreams and never let go.
Keep that wish list close to your heart.

I want to be revered for writing something that really matters

Your readers would tell you, you have already achieved that.

pen pad and heart - that is so you
