Wish

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Wish

I want to join the Beats
feel the momentum
write long discriminate poems
about wars
and free love
Woodstock
Christ walking among us
sitting with Emily at the bus stop
getting to know her
convincing her he is quite real

as belief grows
for a cause
I want to join the Beats

write poems that make purists
cringe
for they must have structure
and we are demolishing
what they built

I want to write a book
and ask Ferlinghetti
to publish it with City Lights
have beatniks walk by the store
and see it displayed in the window

I want to walk down the street in protest
of anything available for the cause
jot lines down on my pad
like an artist's sketch book
I want to be revered for writing something
that really matters
formless
homeless
affording only pen, pad and heart

I dream.

You succeed, I think, even in some small way. It may not be on a grand scale, but you succeed, nevertheless, in my view.

I think I've done that..lol.
I'm sure I have. I'm sure I have and make some people cringe.

I think this is a dream of a write.

Always....
I want to write poems that make purists cringe too DaddyO. 😊
In a sketchpad or journal that expands or shrinks to the size of my thoughts and words and gives out positive vibes at no cost whatsoever to the reader.
But for the life of me, when I type that lot into Google to find out where to learn that, it may as well just shrug for all the good it's answers do. 😊
I would love to quote someone here, but can't remember if it was Picasso or not that said he tried to spend most of his adult life trying to remember how to paint as free as a child. I'd quite like that freedom for anything I write. The closest I have came to it is to always write my name and age on each one, remembering those so important halves and quarters to your age 😊
I would also quite like to join a protest where I don't know what they are protesting and just use the noise they make to cover my own venting of spleen, in a kind of modernists primal scream therapy. 😊

ah, to write as free as a child...yes, if only we could,
thank you, Lorry,
j.
We all want to belong to a group, cause, movement, dream, change, new waves; human nature I guess. Some stay traditional, going with the norms as you say; others want the opposite. We need all those ideas, movements, collaborations.
You write grandly.

All understandable. You are welcome sir
You may have to ask silly questions first - like who killed the pork chops? Or shop for avacados with wives.

Besides that, you may have to drink to excess or take hullucinagenics. Then go on talk shows drunk.

In any case, I always wanted to be a famous drummer. I settled for contentment.

Yes, go on talk shows drunk...I can dig that.
Especially since lockdowns etc we all want to raise a banner and March of peace love happiness freedom. Those of us should can’t do the walk do the talk.
Great write

thank you, Julie....yes, Peace and love...went somewhere.
Everyone has a dream, everyone has desire, ambition and a talent of some sort. I knew a man who could hardly read but anything he planted would grow. He only wanted to be a good farmer and he was. This "joining up" and being a part of a movement, this being pinned down and pigeonholed into a mold is the antithesis of originality. What have we got if not ourselves? But when you get a group of non-conformists, you have a group conforming to non-conformity so it's a catch 22 of sorts. Be you, be an original, be creative and do what you love, that's my motto. I read Kerouac and Ginsberg and the sultry love songs of Rod McKuen. I did want to go on the road but not with them on a magic bus. I did spend a lot of time on the road eventually, meeting people from many different cultures in different parts of the country. I learned why they call America the melting pot of the world. I wanted to see through their eyes, walk in their shoes for just awhile so I could better understand this family of man. What I found was the more I sought a group connection the more I came back to individual inspiration and example. We really are like snowflakes under a microscope. May we each be the prettiest crystal we can form, even if we aren't seen or noticed in the howling blizzard of the world.

Ah, I too have mainly a pad and pen (well, a computer screen and keyboard) and heart. Thanks for your thoughts, Jacob.

Honestly, your work to me surpasses them all. Our writing styles are so different, but I really appreciate your unique point of view and how you express it. You don't need to dream - you are! Believe that.

I remember specifically looking to read your poetry one day; and when I clicked on my "friend," he had closed his profile. I was m-o-r-t-i-f-i-e-d! This, of course, is when you were out with your heart surgery. I hope to never lose sight of your work again.

Thank you, Jacob. That means so much to me coming from you. I respect your work greatly.
Really Fabulous Jacob - Yes those Beats were great - and the first Haiku I read were actually by Ginsberg himself.
Excellent ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
