in deep sight (closing arguments)

in deep sight (closing arguments)

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

in deep sight (closing arguments)

in the deep light

sin prospers

Catholics unite

in pews of relic belief

the synagogues overcrowded

with guilt

we are taught to repent

confessions recorded for posterity

the ledger filled then wiped clean

and filled again

with guilt

lies of preordered contrition

we were meant to be apologetic

to the voice in the sky

that racks our brains

with questions of existence

his, ours

for what purpose

and in the instant of our demise

through whose eyes

may we see

is someone really sitting on the other side

of that confessional

or is it all a myth

we devised

in defense of ourselves.

Jacob,
I'm not an atheist, but I don't believe in religion. Too often we throw the baby out with the bathwater...

Reeks to high heaven!
very much a pantheist these days Jacob, i do feel organized religion is a sin in itself ...

That is a great way to put it, Stella...a sin in itself.

What a question to ask? And none of us will know until the time comes, and then we can’t come back to let others know. Sometimes I think organized religion is just a way of keeping us all in check. I don’t buy in to it but at the same time I make sure I stick as close as I can to the straight and narrow. Just in case:) Yes, I guess many of us ponder on myth or not? And others think they already have the answer J.

Keeping us in check, and something to lean on...but it too often leans on us instead.
