the after days

the after days

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the after days

the façade

a permanent smile

perpetual greeting

with winking eyes

but sinking heart

an arrangement of grief

established years ago

when life chose to rupture

the walk is brisk,

affirmative

with purpose

but the severed soul

is the shadow behind

eternity is a creeping monument

an urn filled with questions

and the tears

that hold it dear.

Gee
The pain of grief subsides, takes it's place in the heart, mind, alongside past events until both no longer have room for the good that abounds in our lives, makes for a pretty sad existence

for some, it sure does, Gee,
hope you are well...

one can only hope, with more and more of them, the hurt will eventually get easier .. but don't they say that the first 24 hours are crucial .. or am I thinking of something else eternity .. no typo intended ..

I like that. "something else eternity"
thank you, Neville...

The subject you wrote about. Something, we must grasp and we must accept Jacob.
"eternity is a creeping monument
an urn filled with questions
and the tears
that hold it dear."
I did like the strength and the meaningful words above. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

The public face and the private one can bear entirely different expressions. Most of us present facades of some degree, but the speaker here seems to speak of a mask that conceals the scars of a past trauma, "an arrangement of grief." The last verse is somewhat mysterious, but it does give a hint as to how deep that wound was.

I appreciate your insight as always, John...you make me understand my own poems better than I do.read more
This is stunning, Jacob. The long twilight walk between mortality and eternity, the visible and the invisible. Thanks for this experience.

The severed soul cast
in shadows behind
facade ' s ..a mask of pretense
left to face another day ..
this poem runs in a deep vein
of sad emotions..intense .
and well conveyed..
Nice work Jacob
