Erin,
Most of the times you describe, I was a willing prisoner of war, and didn't mind my captivity. Sometimes the torture was exquisite... until it ended.
But then there was Lori... like being stuck in a Ferrari with the doors welded shut and the key in plain sight on the hood, my emotional flag tangled in the undercarriage tatterdemalion. I still miss her. (In my nightmares.)

My Lori surely deflated your tires...But yes, most times a willing prisoner.

The battlefield is in the heart. Disillusionment killed the soldier on the inside. Emotional wounds lowered the flag of idealism. It's been happening for eons and ages. I think it's not going to stop happening till the world ends. That's the jaded truth. That's my take on this brilliant and neat piece. Thank you.

Countries and freaks fly flags. Poets must have "standards" and elevate them with adjectives and verbs through alliteration and metaphor. How else can we rally the troops? ;) Great stuff as par for your pen. I enjoyed the read.

What a warrior you are!
Courageous in battle and with such amazing poetry to show for each wound earned in life and love.
Keep the flag flying high, my friend.
You're an inspiration!
Our Flag is still there ... through the Rain and the Wind
securely attached to the Old Maple Tree...
as I myself wear my Amethyst Silver Cross
to keep a Vigil through all the Seasons... Amen

Although this piece reads sad, I can’t help feeling que será here. What will be will be. An acceptance. I don’t see the flag lowered at all. Your flag flies high and always will dear friend.
