a different kind of running

a different kind of running

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a different kind of running

it's a fine day in the mountains

the sun skimming off the trailer top

inside a bride waits to take her first steps

down the aisle of reconciliation

but then, she somehow becomes

wrought with indifference

he lives far away where his feelings

have become a flatland

the flat line evidenced by

not much rain,

no tears

the empathy turned sympathy

turned apathy

it's a fine day in the mountains

for some,

others find it a prison

regardless of

the weather's temperament

Wow, this is so specific and yet leaves plenty of room for imagination. The imagery of the mountain and the bride just fits so well in the mind of the reader. Love it, thank you :)

Of course! (:

there are simply far too many possibilities here to run with .. I would be exhausted by the time I got out of the blocks .. but it does take all sorts, and two to tango I'm told, 'weather' on a mountain, in sunshine or rain, or not ..

and sometimes mountains in between family...literally and figuratively...

If the lady is counting on reconciliation, I fear she is in for a disappointment. When empathy turns to sympathy and then to apathy, I would say a definite course has been set. Perhaps she should think about visiting a dating site.

Love this interpretation, especially considering the inspiration that led to this poem.

I like how you portrayed this. A cleverly written poem

Indifference equals no feeling whatsoever to me and apathy right there partnering with it. At this point it seems nearly impossible to reconcile.

Brings to mind the Gambler lyrics
‘…know when to hold ‘em
Know when to fold ‘em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run…’

Ah, yes, things can be differentiated, though on a fine day. Nice piece, Jacob. Thank you.

Moods and the moodiest, highs and lows. No matter the people, terrain and space either settle or cancel. Reconciliation seems too hard these days, too much to do or - not think about doing. Memories fly out of the window,, then die of the cold or - over-hot suffocation. As you add, ' ...either a prison regardless of the weather's temperament.'

You are - as always, very welcome, sir.
At first, I was confused about the second & third verses, but the rest explained it to me. It's written with a subtle, yet philosophical tone—pretty good work. ;3

She is amazing.

So many points of view by different people and the same person at different times. The poem did well to present this in disjointed breaks and diametrically opposed lines. Very creative.
