Crackers and Cracked Hearts

Crackers and Cracked Hearts

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Crackers and Cracked Hearts

pleasantries exchanged

in mint condition

not worn down with sincerity

add these to your collection

of non-committal greetings

passing by involvement

hurried pauses

life is an interaction

often acted out

like memorization of lines from a play

that skip reality

for window dressing

it's all for show

empty reels

of dialogue

that is so cliche'

parrots repeat it perfectly

with zeal

their little hearts

mean it more than

we do.

Jacob, your poem is thought-provoking and raises important questions about the nature of human interaction in our modern society. It invites the reader to reflect on the quality of their own interactions with others and to strive for greater sincerity and depth in our relationships.

It amazes me how I can go online and meet people. And you’re accepting at word value. But when you go up to someone on the street or a local market, a park so on. Most of time people look at you strange. Times have really changed.

When I did my street photography. I was a photographer that liked getting close to people and take their pictures. So i would get close and not hide the camera. I would make sure the person, or persons saw the camera. I won’t lie. I did on purpose seek out people when my camera was at my side looking for a shot of interest and circle around and then take the shot. When I was on the streets of Los Angeles. People that were with me could not understand how I could get so close in conversation with someone I didn’t know.

Anyway. I’m old school. 67 years old and I still claim up when I message people here or on the internet. I much rather meet someone on the street that I don’t know than online and agree to meet that online person in person.

Not sure what I wrote makes sense.

Great poem, Jacob

Oh how I love lip service. Give me truth any day over pleasantries and condescending motives. One side carrying it all.
