A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

flagship brilliant

the rain sounds especially harsh tonight

the drops are pelting

not simply falling

window's wicked framing

a storm's slide lit by a bolt of lightning

pictures of eerie landscape

branches fallen in disarray

gutters overflowing in rivers of debris

the little boat I am floating in the puddle

is capsizing

the captain calls for the twigs to pray

rampant waves of flooded language

poems evicted from clouds

the pages may never recover

some wish they had not survived the deluge

some just don't remember if it rained.

I kept reading and read again.... And a thought comes to mind, did all those writes without flagship survive? Or are they given away, forgotten and stolen.. You have such deep understanding in things my friend,.

Love this lines:
some wish they had not survived the deluge, some just don't remember if it rained.

I think waiting for the "twigs to pray" is what brought the flood. ALways good to read your work. ~Jim

Thank you for your words, Jim,

The rain becoming storm and deluge feels allegorical considering the final lines, so one interpretation could be heart problems that went from annoying rain to become a raging flood that upended a life and skewed everything normal into abnormality.

I appreciate where you took this, Winston...

I’m new to writing and poetry but I like the descriptions here. Although they are most likely metaphorical, I think they picture a literal observation of inclement weather very nicely.

dear Jacob... I can relate to your words... Sunday was my Birthday and we had survived a deluge of rain with thunder and lightning the day before. My Window Boxes outside the front of our Home are full of coral and yellow Roses... that hummed in the Sun with a soft breeze... a tease of things to come. On May three I will have surgery on a small spot of Cancer in my right breast. I survived a larger operation in my left breast in 2007. I pray for another Miracle. Life is not promised; however, we may see a Rainbow to follow. softly, Pat

As i read this over and over I came to the conclusion that you're really speaking of those who may have drowned, those who didn't make it, those who perished...and then there are some who were oblivious to everything....this is really quite deep.. "some wished they had not survived the deluge.... perhaps everything they owned was obliterated and it would be better to have died. interesting metaphors....

Thank you for your insightful words, Betty,

Of late, it seems that it never rains but it pours.

But as you say jacob, we need our poetry and we especially need it to be a constant and a comfort in these troubled times; oh, and long may you survive the deluge.

dearest Jacob... you have written a Poem that describes how many of us feel
during these days of uncertainty. It seems that Poetry is the only thing that
helps us survive Insanity. There are many Rational Commentators these days, including
"Life, Liberty and Levine" who tell it like it really is. Amen ... Pat

much uncertainty for sure...
we need our poetry.
thanks, Pat,

At times in our lives we are all little boats in fear of capsizing in a storm. All for different and personal reasons. The metaphors here give me different scenarios.

poems evicted from clouds

That is a powerful line which can be read in many ways.

Flagship Brilliant, now that is a title with huge expectations.

and many different types of storms...not weather related.
I see a small boy trying to keep his toy boat from going under in the middle of a savage storm.
I guess, maybe, we all feel like this at times in the World today. I know that I have. All the chaos seems to rain down on us without end.
