Witness

Witness

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Witness

rival serials

same block

same DNA

it's the urge

to ruin

to murder love

it's a wino

watching from beneath an awning

Yawning to sleep with his bottle

thought he saw something or some things

someone or some ones

that bottle's throat clutched with dirty fingers

like the ones she never saw coming.

Well that was chilling. That ending was a solid ending to the poem.

Wow! This one packed a punch. The metaphors in this one are mind boggeling. The whole poem has to be cited to take out a piece would be a crime. Murder (Poecide). It drives a vivid picture and the image of a wino strangling a bottle and the statement "like the ones she never saw coming" To dive deeper, the murder of love by one who drinks too much is just as ugly to those who witness. Loved this one

I really like where you took this one, Soren.
Thanks for your insight.

A drunken witness? Well, he's not going to be much use in convicting the guilty party eh? Even if he IDs the perp the defense lawyer will have a field day with him testifying on the stand. I was reading how Jimmy Hoffa got away after three separate indictments with video footage and recorded wire taps of his crooked dealings while being prosecuted by Bobby Kennedy. That guy had balls of brass. Kennedy said if he got "off" the charges he would "jump from the top of the capitol building". He got off and the mob sent him a box of chocolates with a tiny toy parachute attached for his jump. True story.
