pick-up game

pick-up game

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

pick-up game

i was a redundant excuse for love

you use vocabulary succinctly when you want to

so i knew you were the tautology

to pull my emotions so taut

they broke

i snapped pledging my alliance

with you,

and then the truce

repeated the satire

and i indifferently

played the fool

because i had nothing better to do.

Sometimes we're just left to pick up the pieces when there may be very few pieces left to pick up. I've been there a time too often. I sometimes feel like I've made a habit out of starting my life over. Now here I am in my sixties with a young child and a third wife after raising one daughter and divorcing two women. No more starting over for me, though. I'm like a cat climbing a tree from here on out, all four paws and claws dug in for do or die. They say the third time's the charm. They may be right.

It’s ok to be the fool if you know it. If you have nothing better to do.

wow, Winston, you are right....and this means that I have had nothing better to do, A LOT!
you use vocabulary succinctly when you want to

The imagery that one line gave me was the opposite. I saw a her spewing forth a torrent, a constant torrent or maybe she didn’t speak at all , such was the rift.

Whether too much or too little, the she here broke the bank of emotions. Left it empty.

Excellent piece. So much said in a short poem about relationship breakdown.

and on top of everything, she cleaned out my savings account as well.

Love this Jacob. "I indifferently played the fool, because I had nothing better to do."
That alone could be my autobiography in twelve words. 😊
A pulled tautology does also sound like an excuse I gave my swimming instructor once and as for it being called the pick up game, I'd reply" What? Not with a torn tautology I can't! "😊
Excellent.
