the character between the bindingA Poem by jacob erin-cilbertothe
character between the binding I am
merely an anecdote a
passing story the end
is near quotation
marks enclose I am a
group of run-on sentences collaborating
with several conjunctions who
forgot their commas and then
ran off with all the periods. I
am the bearer of description an
adjective looking for an adverb to join
it as a scene is posed and a
theme arose I am
merely an anecdote feeling
supposition from a
reader who
thoughtfully perused me I am a
grateful exclamation point feeling
the surrender of
joyful merging my theme
the dream to share I am
merely imagination do you
know who I am are you
the mirror's image of me should
we merge into a
novel? a
romance or mystery or something
unedited characters
who think outside the pages allowed
to come to life before
they atrophy into
static beings stuck
between capital letters and
final punctuation. erin-cilberto 3/17/23 © 2023 jacob erin-cilbertoReviews
