running for a line's end

 

 

i want to be a politician

screw the poetry

more people listen to candidates

than read verse

 

i want to be a politician

so i can rehearse

speeches

for the leeches to stick to

 

they don't attach as well

to sonnets and haiku

i want to be a politician

have someone else write my poetry for me

 

then i don't have to take the blame

for my words.

I don’t want you to be a politician J. I have no faith in them, but I have every faith in your ability as a poet. Also many of them are dishonest and you are not. Stick to writing. The politicians can stick to their deception.

If you are a Republican, throw your hat in the ring for the nomination. From my far off perch the competition to run against Bumbling Biden is hardly inspiring. At least with your wordcraft you will write your own speeches and be your own man, something I have always found weird in American politics. I do agree with you, though......many prefer to delve into politics than read the verse of a poet. Even reading of books is becoming extinct. And that is quite sad and doesn't bode well for the new generations of poets. This poem gets my vote, anyway. Well written, Jacob.

Well, you are right about that...taking the blame for their words. I really don't get it at all, how can a population of millions allow these people to constant lie or say the wrong things and still let them get away with it. I think a poet as a politician is a good idea, at least they would have a bit of imagination.
