I've always seen the opposite as the old man slows, life rushes by, but your words do make so much more sense.
Life is now the part that it's too uncomfortable to turn and see what it's up to.

Yes, and get noisier too! 😊
And in his head a lifetime of pictures now that his sight is failing

And in his heart a lifetime of living emotions

What alot can be said about this remarkable piece J. Hopefully his other senses will become heightened and his hearing will pick up the bird song in stereo.
