Perfect

Perfect

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Perfect

impeccable emotions

love is the saintly touch

a heart in flux

searches the reaches of denial

to find what might be real

but gnashes its teeth on hopeless expression

infallibility is not the true art

of involvement's dream

but understanding the flaws

and embracing them

is.

"infallibility is not the true art
of involvement's dream
but understanding the flaws
and embracing them
is."

Killer five lines here, pure gold. And I like the picture of denial being a spectrum of physical space with outer boundaries that a heart can search for things within. I also like the word "impeccable" used in that space/context, paired with the word "saintly", as impeccable comes from the Latin (or French, who knows these days) for "not capable of sinning"

You are welcome Jacob.
Only God is perfect. Yet, when Abraham was 99 years old God appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; Walk before Me, and be blameless." Genesis 17:1 It is not for man to attain perfection through himself but through walking before God and from walking with God. "He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8 Christ said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God for all things are possible with God.” Mark 10:27 So the psalmist said, "When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “I shall seek Your face, LORD.” Psalm 27:8

Truer words were never spoken. Those who seek Mr. or Ms. Right may end up disappointed when they find they have joined themselves to another flawed human being. Such keep the divorce courts busy.

yes, very disappointed...
thank you, John,

Very well said. Ironically, accepting and acknowledging the flaws makes something perfect.

Too True, embracing being the hardest part.

yes it is, thank you, JE,

Those flaws I learned were strings, like some enchanted musical instrument that connects present to near-infancy and when plucked resonate with the sensations of then in the now. Accepted and learned how to accommodate.

Perfection is an impossible quest, so I never understood why people hope to attain it. Whether it be life, love, self or even writing, everything is flawed, so we just have to accept our limitations, embrace the flaws and give it everything we have in the pursuit of happiness and satisfaction. I have known some people who considered themselves perfect and they were ultimately the most obnoxious and flawed people I have ever met. I like the wisdom weaved in your poem here. Something many of us should give closer inspection to.

yes, those who consider themselves perfect....are ususally the furthest from that peak.

The most impeccable emotions can encounter hopelessness in expression. The quest for perfection does bring about gnashing of teeth. Flawlessness can feel inhuman. The flaws make it endearing and relatable.
