one last drop of religion

one last drop of religion

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

one last drop of religion

sanctimonious state

where hapless fanatics

occupy pulpits

of lightning fast words

gimmicks

to pedal their wares

to those poor crippled sinners

who need no longer

                                  be broken

but instead

                                  broke

as the panhandler

on the corner

of God and wine.

...Excellent comment on those TV preachers I accidently tune in sometimes and just as quickly switch off.
Remember old Swaggart when he got caught, and the one married to the lady with shovel-applied makeup?
"the panhandler on the corner of God and wine." Great line!

...Oh, and thanks for the Baker story ...a reverse-Robin Hood.
I do Christmas for the children. Once I looked for God. Now I am seeking some peace Jacob. Nice twist of words my friend. Happy New year from Michigan.

You are welcome Jacob.
Anyone can stand on a corner and preach about what will come in the end, but it is those with their hands out who will get what they have coming in the end. Makes me think of the guy offering Miracle Spring Water for free on TV. Nothing is free. I learned a long time ago that church is nothing more than a business and a slick one at that...no taxes. Nice one Jacob

I let go of it not long after being bought my first pair of long trousers .. and have never looked back for more than a few moments to appease those I love or have loved .. in my opinion, ink well spilt jacob.

Reminds me why I don’t go to church anymore. I came across too many bible bashers and not enough with the spirit of Christ in them. I have a bundle of letters written to my 17 year old great aunt by a so called minister trying to save her sinners soul before she died of TB. The child had barely lived. They made me cry and hurt my soul.

I went to a catholic school. I was slapped around in the fourth grade and berated by nuns in the 5th. Today it's called abuse but back then it was discipline. My views on religion have changed over the years. Especially after 9/11.

dear Jacob... my Father had a total "nervous breakdown"...
studying Religion. Most children... like myself took his "knowledge"
he acquired with a grain of salt. I formed my own Religion of believing in the "Spirit"
that all people are born with.... probably all babies are born with some of the
"Holy Spirit". Many a "Preacher" has been overwhelmed with Evil. That is how the System survives.
Young people are very Wise... and will believe what their Best intentions see with their own eyes.
The best preachers should be Poets.... who ask for no money. They would have their own Livelihood, i.e., being a Carpenter or a Nurse or Doctor, and so forth. My favorite words in the Bible are the Poetry therein.

I feel sorry for those poor "sinners" to have to listen to the FAST TALK of nonsense from the fake God fearing people at the pulpit... but they do, and that's what makes it so miserable... and they even give money to these creeps!!!
Okay, no more religion!!!
