A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto
"

I actually love Hemingway's writing, perhaps more than any other writer ever.

"

less is more

Hemingway's white elephant

drove him over the edge

too wide for his traveling legs

too thick skinned

for his rifle to make a dent

the sportsman out sported

riding in the trunk of his ego

a man's man's man

the great black hunter

with his dark thoughts

inked

for posterity

very short stories

to match his attention span

when his typewriter

wouldn't fire.

hills like white elephants ... perhaps the greatest of his scribblings
an angry drunken man that dealt with his tragedies with insult
a man possessed with the addiction for adventures not thought of by others
his reputation precedes him in unfavorable terms
you either like his messages or he is only a drunken sort
i agree (imagine that) hemingway may well be one of the most gifted talents

you done good by him

Some Great men lie in an unmarked Grave ... placed there on Record with no Stone or Marker.
Snap Dragons scattered on their Grave without Notoriety. At least Hemingway was published.
Life is to be lived and Poets breathe throughout Eternity. Softly, Pat

If the movie portrayed him correctly as jealous of his lovers' talent and abusive to her, which is such a terrible shame and what a waste of his own talents and loving heart.

Papa was a complex man, as I learned from Ken Burns' documentary about him. Loved his terse delivery, but there was darkness underneath it. The booze couldn't keep The Reaper away. Thus, the shotgun to the forehead.

Hemingway. One of USA great characters. One of the few writers Salinger liked. He did everything he wanted to do. Thank you Jacob for sharing the amazing poetry.

Salinger met Hemingway. Twice in WW2. You are welcome Jacob.
I had to think could this be Cuba where he sat and wrote. , Sometimes I get history wrong, but this write has me wondering, where's the fire.
Thank you for sharing.

You're a good writer, thank you.
I need to read this writer J, especially if his style suits people with the attention span of a gnat. That is me my friend :)

I guess, like Hemingway and Capt. Ahab, we all have our White Elephants and Whales, and most of us have the refuge of living with them privately. I wonder, was Hemingway the victim of his own self-created public persona?

A great poem on Hemingway's style. This poem conveys much hope for those with shorter attention spans. The sprinters vis-a-vis the marathon runners. Not all is lost if one isn't able to produce lengthy literary work like novels. I'll look forward to reading Hemingway's brief stories. Thank you for sharing.

Hope you enjoy them,

you encapsulated some say was a great man .. his life such a contradiction .. having survived so many circumstances of death yet in the end his darkness took him ... i think your poem is a tribute to his style and voice ... your own minimalism makes you a perfect pair ... without the depth of internal darkness and pain ... luv on ya brother and Merry Christmas all around
