A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

rough drafts

i used to like Bukowski

till i ran into him in a tavern

one night in May

over drinks

he read a few of his poems

then tossed down a final beer

walked out leaving me to pay the tab

and those dreary poems

each one more bruised

than the other.

Good write.
Thank you.
Damn, he was a messed up man, but anyone would have to be to write a poetry book equating love with Hell.

I read his "Open All Night" collection earlier this year. I'd say he's an acquired taste.

Yes Jacob. Bukowski didn't see life as pretty. He lived on the dark side and he liked it. Hard to digest Bukowski words. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Never cared much for his writing myself. (A cult hero, Bukowski relied on experience, emotion, and imagination in his work, using direct language and violent and sexual imagery.) Not much of a man or writer in my opinion. I'd much rather read a Mr. Jacob Erin-Cilberto!~Sharon

Be it poets, singers, actors and or painters it’s funny how these people are not nice in real life. Great write , the last two stanzas are so clever made me smile at the audacity you portrayed so well.

Bukowski is a fascinating character and many people seem divided over him. I haven't read him yet but I have read he was an abrasive character. This poem tells me he was and he didn't hide his bruises well. I'm sorry you had to suffer him even if just within the poem.

You met him? Wow, I love the quote he wrote about his beer drunk soul, being sadder than all the Christmas trees in the world. Do you remember what year it was? How fascinating! Good poem, btw!

Don't remember the year...
He’s always had a huge following but I have read about his drunkenness and rudeness and I can do without that. I know you aren’t a fan of his either J.

Often those in the limelight are nothing more than a shining example of how not to be. I like this little group, so much talent, very few arseholes. Nice one Jacob
