Frank and the demise of genius

Frank and the demise of genius

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Frank and the demise of genius

O'Hara was telling me of his accidental

suicide

getting sliced to the page

by an errant jeep

hustling along a New Jersey

beach front

on the back of one of his poems

also committing accidental

suicide

his infatuation with Lana Turner

distracted his pen

and it ran into the oncoming

words

that were his last

even as death sketched his final breath

five poems left mouth

clutching the agony of the moment

as tightly as he had wished

to hold Lana upright

when she couldn't stand on her own.

"now I lay me down to sleep"

Thank you Jacob. I had to research Lana Turner and Frank O'Hara. I knew things about Lana. Frank was a interesting character. Now I need to read his work. Merry Christmas my friend and thank you for sharing the entertaining poetry.

This is so beautifully written.
It was a sad end but one that tells me how immersed he was in poetry. I read his poem 'Lana Turner has collapsed' after reading this poem and I loved the satire. Will read more of Frank O'Hara. Thank you for introducing us to him with such interesting words.

It was a pleasure, my friend.
I was unaware of the association of the New York School and ignorant of John O’Hara so thanks for the lesson.
