a really long poem

a really long poem

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a really long poem

your face

an exquisite painting

a hologram

my hand passed right through yours

I haven't

an artist's imagination

and I don't write

really long poems

but I kiss

in illustrations

adjacent to

the lines

of sinful demarcation.

This title so misleading, in so few lines there is a lot of information. At first look the title leads one to expect pages of script, but I was deceived, the poem was short. Next expecting a simple theme to such a short piece, I was again deceived, it was deep and complex. So much meaning crammed into so few words. It may mean many things to different people but to me the face a hologram is an image of something not real representing the real but hardly able to perceive the difference. This seems reinforced by the line "my hand passed right through yours" What a nice way to say that the opportunity was lost. All this seemed so well tied up in the masterful wording of the last stanza.
