in secret

in secret

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

in secret

strategically placed martyrs

in the middle of a sky

of crosses

when the rain blackened sky

kneels in prayer

they smile

in secret

the wooden woven timber

a Samaritan's dream of use

a Jesus signature

in a book read by Pilate

in secret

his hands are clean

but still feel sticky

with conscience

oozing slowly

like honey from a

jar of guilty blushes

and Mary Magdalene's

make up is smeared with tears

but the storm within her will subside

with her grief

she contemplates his touch

in secret

as the sky clears

the crosses vacated

the stone in place

the thieves couldn't take it with them

and at once we are all naked souls

with only a loin cloth to cover what

faith we have devised for ourselves

in secret.

Excellent presentation, Jacob. Faith is, alter all, a personal decision. How much is the same.

thank you, Winston, appreciate your review,

the stone in place
the thieves couldn't take it with them

It reinforces my faith in the truth of Christ, whatever may be. I don't feel naked but dressed and so good. This is a powerful poem, my friend.

thank you, DIVYA,

The word secret is mentioned five times in this piece which has many religious references. I ask, why the secrets? Is something taking place here which is pricking a conscience? Perhaps it goes against the grain, but just can’t be helped? I found the poem intriguing but thought we are all sinners, some more than others.

yes, some more than others...so true...thank you, Chris,

Oh, this feels so heavy. Secrets are an incredible burden.
I'm not religious and I don't believe in the immaculate conception so I've wondered at the truth of Mary's story. Is a violation by God any less of a violation? Or was this the story to cover a secret.

interesting response and quite a valid question, Ciara, thank you,
j.
Funny, as I read this poem while at work, someone opens the door to the shop and blaring from a tech's radio is "Knocking on heaven's door" Guns n Roses version and I think...would he have had to knock if some things weren't kept out of the public eye? Under the shroud as it were. Some things are better off kept private, even when a "no secrets" bond is in effect...there are still those that you just can't utter. Nice one Jacob
