burnt toast

burnt toast

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

burnt toast
a percolation of thoughts
unscripted cream
in my coffee cup
caffeine rush of superfluous semantics
chosen,
carefully like a second napkin
to wipe away the smudges
on the edge
of lips
not bold enough for speak
but mouthing the words
as the pen searches
for sugar.

Often even caffeine is not enough or perhaps it is too much. The rush to write, the need to create sometimes flows at a better pace when we embrace the toast for what it is...a slice of life, burnt or not. Really cool my friend.

This, along with Chris Shaw's coffee offering, "A percolated Poem" makes me think the two of you are writing to a prompt. I liked the phrase "superfluous semantics" but more than enough meaning is better than none at all, eh? When I want some sugar for my pen I write my wife love poems. (laughing) I guess it's coffee season. I drink it every day year round. Nice poem. I enjoyed.

I bet your wife enjoys those poems.
I hated the one sip of coffee I ever had...but it is good.. read more
I agree with Ken: opening stanza is killer.

by times your hold on metaphors leaves me breathless and a little envious. Unscripted cream is one of those moments

caffeine rush of superfluous semantics
These are very relatable words to me....The pen always thirsts more sugar.
Perhaps, like an addiction...
