the almost epic poem

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the almost epic poem

after the intensity,

drifting into smoke rings

the time arrived

I ascended through them

beneath was what I had been

a figurative masterpiece

of maybes

now lying in the ashtray

burnt aspiration

seared at inception.

And yet you didn't burn it with a flame thrower? Says something about how you truly feel about this one. Smoke rings after smoke rings we keep struggling at our "heart of darkness" don't we though...it's either that or the sweet denial of insanity. Love the self-grading and no worries you'll get it next round no doubt!..hahaha...Well done j !

Wow! Thank you for this review, Perdition.
I appreciate your insights.

"That is not how I pictured it" A common phrase I utter when finishing a project, writing or otherwise that the picture I had in my mind was amazing only to find something sitting there that does not even closely resemble those visions. It is at that point I deem the project, Shabby Chic. : ) Really cool Jacob

Ah, yes, all too often, Aspiration + Inspiration + Perspiration = Frustration
...and yet, from Frustration comes this, your Inspired poem! :)

thank you for your words, JD,

I heard Muhammad was supposed to have ascended through six heavens and in the seventh, looked upon the face of God. The ascension described here sounds somewhat less glorious. Maybe you weren't smoking the right stuff.

ha ha...yes, thank you, John,
j.
Those great moments of inspiration that sadly don't live up to expectation and end up as f*g ends. Been there and done that J. The epic awaits another day.

thank you for your understanding words, Chris,

The air of pondering strikes me here where daydreaming for a line or an idea can easily be broken when the smoke ring has dissipated taking the idea with it.
