Song of the Curve

Song of the Curve

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Song of the Curve

i howl silently

like a quiet swirl of wind

tears are the rain

of notes played

in a gray sky of an imploded heart

of sensibility turning the corner too fast

on a road to disaster

i loved you without my seat belt

buckled,

knuckled under your spell

screamed as i careened

off the pavement

of plausibility

i am a static character

still pressing the accelerator

into next week, next month

next whatever comes

Love is a perilous road course

slick blacktop,

the tears make me skid

fall so hard i cannot see

who's in front of me

who's behind me

who's with me

or not

so i howl silently

even after the rain

subsides.

"I loved you without my seat belt buckled,
knuckled under your spell"

Are my favorite lines, the danger and personal movement are clearly depicted here. A knuckleball is exciting, but hard to both hit and throw correctly, it's a dual failure. The seat belt is personal boundaries, it sets a limited dynamic range of behaviors, emotions, ideas, and feelings you will accept and incorporate from those around you. Without boundaries, it's impossible to maintain a strong locus of control. But I will say, it's often far more fun, for a time, at least.

I appreciate your insights, Jon,
j.
I have never before seen love gone wrong compared to reckless driving. But the metaphors fit well the emotional states mentioned. Too many press that accelerator when the cause is lost. The fortunate survive to drive another day.

leadfoots kill a relationship.
thank you, John,

Love is truly such a crazy ride, full of such dangerous bend and curves, so unsure is the road ahead. We skid, scream and howl at every curve and till the end of the ride. Sometimes I think, if it was not so insane, it wouldn't be love.

You are so very welcome, Jacob.
You were King of the Road… and then careened onto the Beach where Lovers reach a Wave of Crescendos as Moonlight charmed the dancing Stars. gently, Pat
