Dress up

Dress up

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Dress up

a very loose-fitting metaphor

shrinking to appear

on a gaunt poet's anatomy

tailored to tarry about

making some sense

when tied together

to suit an idea.

Clothes do not make the man, they say. However, attire can influence attitude. So, man and his creation, his "suit", create and influence each other. Another quote comes to mind: "Words fit thoughts like a straitjacket."

thank you, Laz,

I am not sure anything ever fits perfectly, we just try things on and if we like them, then we wear them. You have tailored this poem nicely.

You don't think I look old in it? :)))
thank you, will,

Once again a great metaphor that takes advantage of a play on words in the word "suit" I loved it.

Dressing up has such immense potential.
The gaunt poet would look great in just about anything fashioned out of the loose-fitting metaphor.
After all, he is a superb tailor as well!

I am ever fascinated by your ability to turn something so ordinary into something extraordinary. You are just amazing.

thank you for the kind words, Linda,

Again, you are approaching the territory of Hulme and Lawrence and Pound and Eliot and Doolittle and Williams. It suits you, once you take it in a little. A clever metaphor of a metaphor.
Again I say, congratulations.

So much creativity packed in to these few lines.

It's interesting how we often scramble to make sure the words and ideas fit.

dear Jacob… a Belt around our Suit or Dress will keep us secure to weather the Storms of Uncertainty. The Idea of a well-fitting Metaphor is something to explore. gently, Pat
