heart trumps reason

heart trumps reason

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

heart trumps reason

impractical tenders

expressed against righteous

bonds

sunshine lovers

bask in moonlit countenance

but like Romeo and Juliet

fast ends forthcoming

broken clasps

unhugged moments

rendered

the balcony is high and dangerous

feelings may fall to their death

pondering on the way down

if the cause was worthy

I guess it depends on how long the sunshine days lasted before condemning the whole romance. Nothing seems to last forever these days. This is a poem dear J that has multiple meanings.

Thank you for your kind words, Chris,
j.
How quickly those heated moments fade, like wisps of smoke from a snuffed-out candle. Fast and fleeting, they fall into memory's abyss, an echo of someone once were.

Your response is better than the poem...more poetic...
thank you,
j.
Like Romeo and Juliet, their ending was calamitous....and as I see a comparison here, Trump is likely to end calamitous as well; as his former "lovers" are breaking away one at a fast time.....I doubt your'e really focusing on R & J , but more broadly on the "love affair" between Trump and his loyal underlings... and how that will impact all of us.....Violent or not????
Best, B

Gee
Being feral and guarded meant that I never truly trusted enough to give my heart until I met my now wife, 29 years in the waiting, 32 years as one.
Hope you are well Jacob

32...that is fantastic...congrats, my friend.

I suppose you either say to yourself "tis better to have lost and lost" and finish filling your cup until it runneth over, or you turn your head backwards like Regan MacNeil and see only regrets and feel only bitterness.
Nothingness is not the same as emptiness.

ah, that scene...creepy.
bitterness is a heavy burden to hang on to.

Well (deep and dark)… I ponder… we need someone Now for President who can salvage and Save our Country. How about that ? I am just a Cuckoo Clock on the Wall … hoping we do not Fall … we need the North Star to guide our way. tenderly, Pat

unhugged moments. how to write a tragedy in two words. this poem is fast and brutal, as i imagine this relationship was. what an impact it leaves

thank you for your words, Earthrise,
j.
No, if it brought death, grief and pain the way it did to Romeo and Juliet, then it wasn't worth it. Plenty of paeans are sung in honor of love but sometimes restraint and caution are also prudent. The last verse was so wonderful. Not all endings are happy but they do lead to good introspection.

Romantic love is the staple of singers and writers, but in real life it can be costly. More than one hopeful has climbed its high balcony only to find that the way down can appear with painful swiftness.

falling over that balcony...we then realize,
thank you, John,

Wow, that feels a bit angry or vengeful...at least under the shadows of the balcony. Romance, lives and falls as questions linger. Was it worth it...I ask myself the same thing often. Nice one Jacob
