bum with a heart

bum with a heart

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

bum with a heart

outside the door of coincidence

the place mat welcomes

serendipity

but you stand aloof

of consequence

and happenstance

and I bow my head

tip my hat to the onlookers

hoping they drop a nickel or two

as I continue to beg for you

to knock on my door

and let me out of

my tedium

a poor ennui

for sure.

I'm not much of a writer. And I'm not as good at reviews as other people. But this was actually really beautiful and it made me think of love a little differently.

I appreciate your words, Ruby.
I find reviewing for me is basically just giving reactions to .. read more
caught me off-guard with serendipity & happenstance
guess i'm not reading much above 3rd grade level lately HA! (another clive cussler novel)
i like those words and they fit well
that word ennui is an interesting choice ( i had to look it up ... never realized a 5 letter word could have so many synonyms
it made a connection to me which is what writing is intended to be
i have been assimilated ! thanks

thank you for your kind review, keith,

Often, I long to beg that they lock the door and throw away the key, but something always stops me.
Perhaps it is in hopes that someday I can, like you do so effortlessly, take the ordinary and turn it into something extraordinary. Nicely done.

I appreciate your kind words, will,

All my muse gives me these days is heartburn and the cold shoulder. She's not returning my calls and pleas for a bit of optimism in my writing, but I've heard due to the ongoing inflation she's charging double for vowels these days.
Maybe I could write a hymn to her 😊

yes, we have to start using words that only have consonants....too expensive.

Could be the muse you are begging or a lover to come and add some excitement to a life that has become tedious. I have often felt this way, especially during the nightmare period that was pandemic lockdown.

Whether it be inspiration and words from the muse's touch or one to take our hearts on an amusement ride into the clouds, our door is always open. Just rap loudly and all will be welcomed.

I like the title, Jacob. Made me think of Chaplin in some way. Begging on the street for chance to bless him favourably. Great poem.

I often beg my muse to let me out of my ennui and tedium. Perhaps looking for a nickel or two of inspiration in the words of others, while she decides if or not to drop the aloofness. In fact, this happened all through this weekend. I just loved the second verse!
