the "A" side flew out the window

the "A" side flew out the window

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the "A" side flew out the window

sandpaper feels

odd against the ventricle

heart's smoothed out

after your rough edge

I sit in the dark listening to Mozart

the music scrapes pleasantly

against my broken ear

your last words fractured

what was left of the whispers I once felt

when you and I listened

to concertos floating in black and white surprise

sandpaper is an acquired feel

you were an acquired resentment

smashed vinyl litters my peaceful futures

I am the rough edge now

you are the label twisting around my turntable

I've become the "B" side

of love

hardly played.

Whenever I think I have read of every facet of love and heartbreak, you come up with something absolutely new to amaze me. The sandpaper did such great things to my imagination today.

sandpaper is an acquired feel
you were an acquired resentment
smashed vinyl litters my peaceful futures

Wow.....

thank you, DIVYA,

I almost don't want to say anything. I just want to sit back in amazement at the artistry of your words. This is tinged with sadness but rings of truth. Love it!

Music and memory intertwine so much, and scents as well. I am imagining a man, hurt by the past, listening to music he shared with a lover who has gone and left him alone. The music is still beautiful but it hurts. It is not the music that changed but the ear, the hearing with jaded mind.
Acquired resentment is a fantastic phrase

Seems apropos that “You Can’t Always Get What You Want “ first recorded as a “B” side.
