That dirt you hear falling, it's your little dog. Or maybe it's Thomas Hardy's dog. In either case it may not be for the purpose supposed. I love that poem by Hardy. Shouldn't that be "covered" since it's past tense? It's quite an interesting contradiction there, portraying the grave as the end and then having the corpse to be aware. It portrays the soul as powerless and impotent as well as disappointed. It seems to harbor the notion that the soul is attached to the body even after death or that the soul is only as strong as the fleshly prison that once housed it. We buy all sorts of things in bottles from ketchup to wine but we don't typically save the bottles because what was important was what was inside. The bottles may get recycled but the contents get put to use. There may be a metaphor for the human condition there as well.

Sounds more like questioning faith to me… and that happens. But in the end, the strong in faith remain steadfast. :)

I have faith... that whatever I put my faith in will be wrong.
I mean, what are the chances, that as the soil thuds against my entombment, that I will float up into the sky to be greeted by technicolour cartoon penguins, dancing in hula skirts and smiling a smile that says to me "welcome home Lorry!" 😊
Rather like Philip Larkin Jacob, this Piece suggests you have lost your Faith. Obviously noone will impose Faith upon you, but my own experience in several difficult situations is otherwise. Still a nicely written and pithy Work putting the case for 'the Opposition' ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
